Toronto Blue Jays: Bo Bichette hits homer to special spot
Boston holds a special place for the Bichette family. It was there in 1991 that Dante Bichette, father of Toronto Blue Jays young star Bo Bichette, met his future wife. The gym that they met at is now closed, but the building remains, and with it, a great memory for the family.
On Tuesday, the younger Bichette launched a homer out of Fenway Park, landing on Landsdowne St. The blast just so happened to land outside of the gym where his parents first met.
A moment of serendipity for Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette
There are some moments that no one can predict. For that home run to happen, Bichette needed to hit the ball perfectly, at just the right angle for it to leave Fenway Park on the fly. Even when that happened, there was no promise that it would happen to land right in front of the building where his parents had met.
Those bloodlines were a part of why the Blue Jays were so interested in Bichette. He was a part of their second generation prospects, where they had hoped that having those bloodlines would help those players find success at the major league level.
To this point, the Blue Jays have had success with that strategy when it comes to their lineup. Bichette has emerged as a budding superstar, posting a career .302/.341/.550 batting line with 21 homers and 31 doubles in his 413 plate appearances. To this point, the only thing holding him back has been an ability to stay healthy.
All journeys have to begin somewhere. For Bo Bichette, his journey to life literally began in Boston, where his parents met at a gym outside Fenway Park. Approximately 30 years later, that spot and Bichette’s family converged again, with his home run landing outside of that building.
Baseball is filled with those wonderful moments that cannot be found in other sports. Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette provided another on Tuesday.
