Miami Marlins dealing with another COVID situation
Last season, the Miami Marlins were the first team to be truly hammered by the ongoing pandemic. A large portion of their roster had tested positive for COVID, leaving the Marlins to trade for anything available to field a team. At times, they resembled a Triple-A squad more than a real major league team. Nonetheless, the Marlins found a way into the postseason, advancing to the second round.
This year, the Marlins are again facing the ravages of the pandemic. This time, their minor league training site has been shut down after several players tested positive for COVID.
Miami Marlins dealing with another COVID outbreak
One would have imagined that, after the issues last season, that the Marlins would have learned how to properly protect themselves from the virus. Even though one cannot monitor every player for every second of the day, protocols would have been strengthened to keep something as this from happening.
And that very well may have been the case. This outbreak could have been a situation that no one could foresee, where the players were following those protocols and still contracted the virus. Sometimes, even as we do our best to be cautious, mistakes happen, especially as we cannot control what others will do.
But there has to be some concern around the league that the Marlins find themselves in this boat yet again. Their outbreak during Opening Weekend last year put the season in jeopardy right off the bat and led to a difficult situation for the team. Fortunately, this seems to be contained to the minor league section, and with their season not slated to begin for a few weeks, those players will have a chance to be healthy once again.
It is also fair to wonder which players are affected. The Marlins have one of the top minor league systems in the game, one that would be the envy of most major league teams. While those players have not yet been named, there will be plenty of people interested in finding out their identity.
The Miami Marlins are dealing with another COVID outbreak. This time, at least five minor league players have tested positive for the virus.
