It is not very often that a player can give an epic interview without saying a single word. While the axiom states that silence does speak louder than words, fans do not watch postgame interviews to watch the player stand there silently. However, in the case of Cincinnati Reds outfielder Nick Castellanos, an exception can be made.

The reason for that? Castellanos allowed a fan to conduct his postgame interview for him, leading to some entertaining soundbites.

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Nick Castellano has epic interview without speaking

There was some intrigue about this fan prior to the interview. Castellanos had belted his tenth homer of the season, and following that home run, gave the fan a fistbump. Naturally, people were curious as to their relationship.

It turns out that the fan earned the fistbump, and the postgame interview, from something he said. Prior to the at bat, he shouted that Castellanos should imagine that the ball was commissioner Rob Manfred’s face. That encouragement certainly worked.

Castellanos and Manfred have had their differences already this year. The Reds outfielder was infamously suspended for flexing over pitcher Jake Woodford after scoring on a wild pitch. Woodford had hit Castellanos with a pitch earlier in the inning, leading to that display. Although other players and coaches acted in a far more aggressive and violent manner, Castellanos was the only player ejected and subsequently suspended.

Chances are, this stunt will have some sort of repercussions. The league may well fine Castellanos for having the fan conduct his interview, or for the sentiments expressed. After all, Manfred is not exactly a fan of players speaking their mind, especially when it comes to his tenure as commissioner.
