New York Mets have another health scare with Noah Syndergaard
Tuesday night was supposed to be a moment of celebration for the New York Mets. After months on the shelf, Noah Syndergaard was back on the mound, taking the first step towards a return to the majors. After being constantly bombarded by injuries, the Mets were set to receive some good news on the health front.
But apparently, the Mets cannot have good things. Syndergaard was lifted after one inning after a drop in velocity and a loss of command.
New York Mets not concerned about Noah Syndergaard – yet
The news got worse for the Mets. Syndergaard, who had been expected to pitch at least four innings, was removed from the game due to elbow soreness. As he is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, that is just about the last thing that anyone wants to hear.
Although he is slated to undergo an MRI on Wednesday, the Mets are somehow not worried about this setback. To be fair, this sort of setback does happen with players coming back from Tommy John surgery, where the elbow gets sore when they begin their rehab. There will be fluctuations in command and velocity – these players need to get used to the way their elbow feels after the procedure.
And yes, this may be normal. But the Mets have seemingly been cursed this year, with injuries occurring in just about any way possible. They literally lost their top four centerfielders on the depth chart and three quarters of their starting infield; why wouldn’t the Mets somehow lose Syndergaard right when he starts his rehab assignment?
But that is purely speculative at this point. Nothing will be truly known until the Mets get the results of his MRI, at which point in time they will know if their confidence is warranted. But given the way this season has gone, the Mets may want to make some preparations.
Noah Syndergaard was supposed to be taking his first step towards returning to the New York Mets. Instead, he has taken a step back.
