There are certain players that we want to see in the Home Run Derby. This season, the likes of Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Shohei Ohtani, and Fernando Tatis Jr. are putting on a show in the power department, putting them at the top of the list of the people that wanted to see in baseball’s celebration of power.

At least one of those players will be joining the festivities. The Los Angeles Angels star has accepted the invitation to participate in the Derby on July 12.

Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani gets to showcase his power

Ohtani certainly deserves his place in the Home Run Derby. He has produced an impressive .270/.354/.615 batting line with 19 homers and 15 doubles in his 257 plate appearances while emerging as a top of the rotation arm. That combination has been truly impressive.

He has also become known for belting tape measure homers. His 19th home run traveled an estimated 477 feet, a prodigious blast from any player, let alone one who is also the ace of his team’s pitching staff. With that combination of tape measure bombs, and his home run numbers from this year, he was an easy choice to include in the exhibition.

It will be fascinating to see how far he can launch baseballs during the Derby. With the All Star Game taking place in Colorado, and the thinner air, Ohtani could set distance records with ease.

At this point, he is going to be a part of the All Star Game as well. Ohtani is the leading vote getter at the designated hitter spot, and it is difficult to imagine anyone surpassing him. Even if that were to happen, his performance on the mound, and at the plate, would be enough for his inclusion.
