New York Mets: Noah Syndergaard should have known better
Trevor Bauer is not close to the most beloved figure for the New York Mets. He had seemingly agreed to sign with the Mets, only to back out at the last moment and ink a contract with the Dodgers. This has earned him the ire of the fanbase and the players, especially Noah Syndergaard.
With the news that Bauer had been accused of assaulting a woman, Syndergaard took the moment to attempt to rip on the Dodgers’ pitcher. Instead, his attempts made him look almost as bad.

The best time to delete that joke would have been before posting it. The next best time would be right about now.
There is never a good time to joke about assaulting a woman, or to joke about it happening. Even if the intent was to make fun of Bauer, and not poke fun at the situation, the entire context did not work. This joke fell flat.
Needless to say, Syndergaard’s tweet was not met with kindly. There have been calls for him to delete the comment, and to apologize for the joke. It is worth noting that there is a smaller faction that found the humor of the situation, feeling that Syndergaard was right to rip Bauer after these allegations.
Given the Mets’ own recent history with sexual assault, and the firing of their general manager after just a few short weeks, Syndergaard should have known better. This was not the time, nor the place, for such a joke. Want to make fun of Bauer after he gives up a homer or gets shelled? Fine. But there is a time and a place for everything, and this was neither.
New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard tried to come for Trevor Bauer after his assault allegations. The timing could have been a lot better.
