Kyle Schwarber is absolutely raking right now for the Washington Nationals. He ranks third in MLB with 25 home runs and has three total in the past two games. Chicago Cubs fans are left wondering why he couldn’t help them in 2021.

Schwarber is absolutely mashing the ball and that means his name could come up for the Home Run Derby. He nearly won the event in 2018 at Nationals Park and is an obvious choice this year. However, he plans to rest.

Kyle Schwarber not planning to hit in the Derby

Schwarber having been a part of the Derby before means he knows just how intense it can be to swing that hard throughout a night. Injuries are possible, and players are also capable of messing up their swing. Not to mention, taking part eliminates any rest that comes with the All-Star break.

The 2018 event saw Schwarber go head-to-head with Bryce Harper in D.C. Harper came out victorious, and it is funny now to think that Nationals fans would jeer him if the same matchup took place in the present.

Schwarber’s home run totals in June are absolutely ridiculous. He has 16 this month, and five came in a two-game span against the New York Mets. His first home run in June also didn’t come until June 12. He has been on an absolute tear ever since.

While fans may be bummed he won’t take part in the Home Run Derby, that may end up being the best move for him. Schwarber can get some rest and ensure his swing is just the way it is now as the second half of the season begins.
