The Houston Astros were set to be well represented at the All Star Game. They had a total of four players selected for the Mid-Summer Classic, a solid number for the AL West leaders. However, it was fair to wonder what type of reaction that group of players would receive during pre-game introductions, and during the game itself, as fans have not forgiven the players for their roles in AstroGate and the cheating scandal.

We will not get to see the reaction to at least two of those players. Both Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa have opted to skip the All Star Game, potentially removing a distraction from the exhibition.

For Altuve, this is an opportunity to get some rest. He stated that he has been dealing with a leg injury, and is looking forward to having those four days off to rest. His focus is to be ready for the second half of the season and to help push the Astros back into the playoffs.

Correa, meanwhile, has more important plans. He and his wife are expecting their first child, and he wants to join her for a doctor’s appointment scheduled during the break. Even though the child is expected to be born towards the end of the year, it is still an exciting time for his family.

These decisions leave Michael Brantley and Ryan Pressly as the only two Astros representatives currently. Neither player was a part of the 2017 World Series champions, and are therefore not part of the AstroGate scandal. However, they may receive the brunt of the derision and anger that had been reserved for Altuve and Correa.

It is possible that the Astros will have another representative as well. Yuli Gurriel had put together a strong first half, and was considered to be one of the bigger snubs for the roster. With Altuve and Correa declining their spots, Gurriel could be selected as a replacement option.
