Must make trades for each American League West team: Seattle Mariners

Trade idea: Acquire Shane Bieber

The Seattle Mariners were hit by the injury bug early. Despite losing James Paxton to the dreadful Tommy John surgery, they’ve been below average on the mound but not the worst team in the league in that department.

Heading into the 2021 season, Mariner fans weren’t optimistic about making the playoffs. Conceding that they hadn’t earned a spot under baseball’s brightest lights in two decades, missed trips to the postseason had become routine. But, as the trade deadline draws closer, they’ve got a solid shot of ending their unfortunate luck.

It’ll be difficult to pry away any good pitcher away from a ball club looking to make a push of their own. But what Cleveland Indians righty Shane Bieber? At .500 and seemingly getting worse, they figure to be sellers at the trade deadline. Bieber could take his 130 strikeouts, tied for fifth-most in the league, and help the Mariners get over the hump.
