Must make trades for each National League West team: San Diego Padres

Trade idea: Acquire Craig Kimbrel

What a year it’s been for the San Diego Padres. Not only are they a great team positioned for the here and now but they’ll be ready to make noise in the near future as well. When Manny Machado signed in 2019, almost no one believed they would be contending for a title so soon. Even more unbelievable, almost no one could’ve wrapped their head around him not being their best player. That distinction goes to Fernando Tati’s Jr.

Good luck finding many holes in this team. They’re ranked in the top five in ERA at 3.40 and when it comes to offense, thanks to their two stars and a great supporting cast, they routinely light up the scoreboard.

The Padres could easily stand pat and find themselves hoisting the World Series trophy at the end of the season. But just to make sure, the Padres should do their best to get their hands on Craig Kimbrel. Imagine taking his nearly unhittable 0.59 ERA and adding it to a squad that’s already second in the majors with 30 saves. That’s a scary thought for everyone else, including the Dodgers.
