If anyone knows the Yankees fan who threw a ball at Alex Verdugo, do you mind telling him that he’s yesterday’s news thanks to another fan’s spitting deed? Say what? Spitting? That’s right, a spitting event, once again at Yankee Stadium and once again against the Boston Red Sox.

After one fan decided to be cute and make himself the headline by throwing a baseball at a Red Sox player on the field, someone else decided to up the ante and spat on the daughter of Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek.

This incident also took place during the 3-1 victory in which the baseball thrower was ejected and permanently banned from all Major League ballparks. New York has now won two games against their rivals, including the 9-1 victory that took place on Sunday.

Varitek’s wife took to social media to voice her concern for her child.

The New York Yankees may be winning games, but their fans are making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

At this point, the Yankees have to look at their fans and be seething. Ok, the Red Sox are a rival, a historic rival, but what kind of behavior is this nonsense? First, one person wants attention and throws a baseball at a player. Now, another fan wants to spit on a Red Sox fan?

More Yankees. A major league outfield...allegedly. light

What makes this worse is not the gender of the individual but the fact that it was a child who was spat on. That intensifies the justifiable outrage and also warrants the Yankees banning that individual as well. Also, this should serve as a lesson to Major League Baseball in general. Procedures have to be put in place so that no child should ever be in danger.

If you recall, in Washington D.C., shots were fired during the Nationals and Padres game that had fans scared for their lives. Both fanbases joined together to protect one another. The reality is, children were at the game and fearful for their safety.

While this incident doesn’t compare in any way to that shock and horror, a child should never be at a sporting event and be afraid and, most certainly, never spat on. For one, it’s inhumane, and two, it’s vile.

A note to Boston fans, you all are not exempt from this news also. The Red Sox are well aware that their fans have done a number of unforgivable acts in the past.

Next. Rivalry escalates for wrong reasons. dark

Ultimately, this is really shameful on the part of Yankee fans. Moreover, while obviously wanting to beat the Red Sox in any way he could, if the late George Steinbrenner saw this, he would be fuming at these actions.
