It seems rather obvious that the Boston Red Sox not only love beating the Yankees but enjoy pulling off extraordinary comebacks against them.  An all too familiar feeling like the 2004 ALCS. Like the rest of them, each one is pure joy for those in Fenway and across the world, who raise their Dunkin glasses and enjoy yet another slice of Boston Cream Pie as they toast to another victory over their hated rivals.

On Sunday, trailing 4-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, Boston seemingly gripped their bats tighter and went ballistic, scoring five runs and finishing the deal off in the ninth to secure the 5-4 win, another series win, and move further along in the AL East towards the playoffs.

The Boston Red Sox may have just ended the New York Yankees’ season while firmly establishing themselves as a prime contender.

It’s even more shocking, considering New York was, at one point, on pace to have a no-hitter. But leave it to Boston to spoil the fun. It’s actually quite hilarious as, at one moment, fans were ready to slam down the forks of clam chowder in disgust and boo the team. Now, those same individuals are celebrating and dancing in the stands, knowing they got another win.

Boston fans are most certainly grateful for Jonathan Loaisiga, who came in and gave up four earned runs, a situation eerily similar to former Yankee Pitcher Chase Wright, who gave up four home runs in a row during a 2007 game against Boston. Loaisiga’s blunder ruined a respectable performance from Yankees pitcher Domingo German.

It’s not over yet for New York, but after what took place on Sunday, Aaron Boone is no longer thinking about his walk-off in Game 7 in 2003 but rather how he will need to regroup his team. As for Boston, they really could care less, as they have a bigger goal in mind, that being the World Series.

With August and the trade deadline approaching, the Red Sox are a team to watch as Chaim Bloom may or may not make a move to bring a player or players to Boston to help them in their pursuit of the Fall Classic. Given how aggressive they have been in the previous years that they won it all (04, 07, 13, 18), it’s a situation worth monitoring. Also, it would be wise for Boston to look for help in the batting area.

Yes, pitching is key, and although this comeback may be an anomaly, there’s no reason to panic when it comes to pitching; it will regroup itself. The batting, on the other hand, it would be wise to add one more, maybe? Jarren Duran has certainly been a welcome addition, and the rest of the order looks sharp, but adding one other player could make a difference? It’s just a thought.

What’s not a thought is that Boston has been a dominant force against New York recently, and that, to Red Sox fans, is not a discussion. The record speaks for itself, as does the comeback victory. They will see each other again down the road this season, but the Boston Red Sox are the one with the advantage for now.
