Los Angeles Dodgers players reportedly want Trevor Bauer gone
The Los Angeles Dodgers had gone out of their way to distance themselves from Trevor Bauer in the wake of his being investigated for sexual assault. His jerseys and memorabilia had been pulled from the team shop, and the players and coaches have refused to discuss him in any way. It is as though Bauer just does not exist.
However, things may soon come to a head. His current administrative leave is due to expire on Tuesday, which would theoretically make him eligible to return to the team. The issue is, that if the majority of the players on the Dodgers have anything to say about it, not only will Bauer not return when his leave ends, but he will never throw another pitch for the franchise.
Los Angeles Dodgers players are done with Trevor Bauer
There is no question that Bauer is an asset on the mound. He has been what the Dodgers had hoped for on the diamond, posting a 2.59 ERA and a 1.003 WHiP in his 107.2 innings, striking out 137 batters with 37 walks. From a purely competitive standpoint, he makes their team better.
The problem is that with Bauer, there is everything else that comes with him. He had essentially forced his way out of Arizona and Cleveland as he clashed with management and the players. Those concerns had followed him into free agency, but the Dodgers organization had felt that he would be a fit in their locker room.
That is clearly no longer the case. While Bauer may have been accepted prior to these allegations, everything has changed in the locker room. The details that have come out, and the extent of the injuries that had been suffered, have made him a pariah.
There were already questions as to whether or not Bauer had thrown his last pitch with the Dodgers prior to this news. If the players on the team have anything to say about it, that will be the case, as Bauer is no longer welcome. If that is going to change, the disgraced Dodgers’ pitcher will need to put a lot of work into rebuilding those bridges and fixing his relationship with the team.
Trevor Bauer’s future remains in limbo. However, if his teammates have anything to say about it, he will never pitch for the Los Angeles Dodgers again.
