The Colorado Rockies would seemingly be one of the key teams at the trade deadline. With pieces such as Trevor Story, Jon Gray, and Daniel Bard, amongst others, the Rockies could be a major player when it comes to selling teams. Trading those players could make a major impact upon their future, and even speed up the rebuilding process.

Instead, the Rockies are going to Rockies. According to reports, the team may not do anything other than possibly trading Story.

Colorado Rockies front office is delusional

It makes zero sense to keep a free agent when the team is 15 games back of the second Wild Card spot. Granted, that is better than what the Rockies were expected to be, but moral victories do not matter in the standings.

More Rockies. Taking their time with Story deals. light

Perhaps the logic is that the Rockies would rather offer Gray the Qualifying Offer, have him turn it down, and get the draft pick. Bard is still arbitration eligible due to the time he spent away from the game, so at least Colorado can keep him for the time being.

But to actively go against finding a way to improve the team for the long term is ridiculous. Gray may not fetch the type of return that Jose Berrios will, or went to Washington for Max Scherzer, but he would arguably be the third best starting pitcher to be traded. He would still bring back a decent return, one that would jumpstart the Rockies’ latest rebuilding process.

Logic would dictate that trading Gray and Story would be the right move. But these are the Rockies – logic does not rule the day. Instead, they are going to ignore their second best asset, and somehow hope that they can make the correct pick in the draft.

dark. Next. Rockies interim GM could get permanent role

The Colorado Rockies are only looking to move Trevor Story. The level of delusion in their front office would be laughable if it was not so pathetic.
