The San Francisco Giants added the perfect piece to their lineup with Kris Bryant. While they had received impressive contributions from their collection of veterans, they needed a player who could be a game changer in the batting order. Likewise, they needed someone capable of slotting around the diamond, giving those aging players a day off if needed. Bryant was both in one package.

While he is slated to be a free agent at the end of the year, it is possible that he can be more than a rental. Bryant is intrigued about the idea of remaining long term in San Francisco, and had previously had a conversation about joining the Giants with his wife.

San Francisco Giants could keep Kris Bryant

Bryant had put together a solid season prior to his trade to the Giants. In his 374 plate appearances, he had produced a .267/.358/.503 batting line, hitting 18 homers and 19 doubles. He has also played all three outfield positions, first, and third this year.

The Giants do have plenty of room to sign Bryant. With only $30.8 million committed in salary for 2022, and just $17 million on the books in 2023, the front office could certainly afford to spend to retain a talent such as Bryant.

It is interesting that Bryant had always felt that his future would take him to San Francisco. They may well have been one of his preferred destinations after the 2021 season had ended, especially with his growing up in the western portion of the country and going to college in San Diego. He would, at least, be near his home and family.

But there are other reasons why Bryant would want to stay in San Francisco. With so few players with guaranteed money in the coming years, the Giants can completely reshape their roster, adding pieces to remain a perennial contender. That process could begin with Bryant.
