New York Yankees: Gerrit Cole tests positive for COVID-19
A prominent name in baseball, New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole, has tested positive for COVID-19 per manager Aaron Boone. Boone also confirmed that Cole would be out for Tuesday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles as a result.
New York is coming off a 7-1 loss to Baltimore on Monday, in which the Yankees surrendered two runs in both the third and fourth inning, before finally getting on the scoreboard with one run and watching Baltimore, a team well under .500 score three more runs to close out the game.
The New York Yankees are struggling with their pitching, and losing Gerrit Cole only makes things worse.
Meanwhile, the Yankees, boasting a new addition in former Cub Anthony Rizzo, currently sit at 56-49 this season and are in danger of not making the postseason. On the other hand, both Tampa Bay and rival Boston continue to surge towards October.
However, Tampa Bay fell 6-2 to Seattle on Tuesday after sweeping the series against Boston, who is scheduled to play Detroit on Wednesday. New York, on the other hand? They are in trouble.
Letting the Orioles, as previously mentioned, a below 0.500 team, scoring seven runs on you on your home ground nonetheless, is outright unacceptable. Going into the next game without Cole may very well prove to be costly.
Best wishes go out to Gerrit Cole as he works his way back from COVID-19.
This season, Gerrit Cole has won 10 games for the Yankees while averaging a 3.11 ERA. However, there have been times where his pitching has left a lot to be desired, notably a 14-0 loss to Tampa Bay in which Cole gave up eight runs.
Also, Cole hasn’t done himself favors in the headlines, mainly when complaining about “sticky stuff.” Since then, he has had moments where he shined and several moments where he looked nothing like what the New York Yankees had invested in when they lured him away from the Houston Astros, who were coming off a World Series loss to the Washington Nationals in seven games.
Major League Baseball wishes Gerrit Cole a safe recovery from COVID-19 and hopes to see him on the mound once again.
