What a season it has been for Javier Báez producing memorable moments, whether he’s wearing a New York Mets or Chicago Cubs uniform.

With a nickname like “El Mago” (The Magician), you would expect Báez to make some plays that will wow the crowd and a slide on Wednesday night during the New York Mets-Miami Marlins game certainly raised some eyebrows.

Here is a must-see slide from New York Mets shortstop Javier Báez

In the second inning of Wednesday’s game in Miami, Báez ran home on an infield grounder off the bat of teammate Tomás Nido. Running on contact, it was a close play at the plate, but Báez made sure to avoid the tag from Miami catcher Alex Johnson with incredible athleticism.

Check out the move below.

It’s just one of a series of memorable plays that Báez has put together this year. Of course, in one of his final acts in a Cubs uniform, the All-Star shortstop hit a walkoff single against Cincinnati Reds closer Amir Garrett, and then taunted him with Garrett’s own celebration of sweeping a broom as he went down the first base line.

And let’s not forget earlier in the season when Báez befuddled the Pittsburgh Pirates into one of the more unforgettable baserunning plays in recent history. After hitting a grounder to third, Báez avoided the tag at first base by running backwards to home plate, allowing the runner from third to score under the tag. Then Báez took off for first and made it all the way to second while the Pirates were still trying to figure out exactly what was happening and how all of the Cubs had escaped.

Remember this play?

It’s no wonder that Báez has the “magician” nickname. He pulled another rabbit out of his hat in Miami on Wednesday night and added to a wild highlight reel of a season for him at the plate and on the bases.
