There are always those teams or players who just seem to be a thorn in the side of a certain franchise. For whatever reason, regardless of records or production, they just have the other team’s number. That has been the case with the Seattle Mariners when it comes to the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Mariners continued to prove that the Rays are no match for them on Tuesday, taking a 4-2 victory. With that win, Seattle has a chance to sweep the season series with a victory on Wednesday.

Seattle Mariners keep beating Tampa Bay Rays

It has been a long time since the Mariners last lost to the Rays. In fact, the last time that the Rays were able to take a win from the Mariners came on August 21, 2019. Prior to that walkoff victory, the Mariners had won the previous two games as well.

Sometimes it is just a matter of certain players being able to hit a pitching staff. Those players just happen to be on the same team, leading to that franchise being able to dominate a series. Strange things can happen when it comes to roster construction, or anything that involves the human element.

But that is not the case in Seattle. The Mariners are always a collection of moving parts as their general manager is constantly tinkering with the roster. In fact, his trades at the deadline did not have the desired effect, as the team had seemingly lost their way after Kendall Graveman was traded. It was nothing that facing the Rays could not fix however.

There is an obvious caveat with this statistic. That matchup on August 21, 2019 was the last between the Rays and Mariners before this season, as they did not face one another due to the COVID shortened schedule in 2020. However, with a victory on Wednesday, the Mariners would be able to go two and a half years since their last loss to the Rays.
