The seven-time All-Star Chris Sale hasn’t thrown in the big leagues since 2019. The Boston Red Sox ace had Tommy John surgery in March of 2020 and has been slowly working his way back.

The 32-year-old has appeared in four minor league games and will soon make his fifth rehab start. He has allowed just three runs, struck out 27 batters, and walked two batters in 15.1 innings of work. Not very fair to the minor leaguers to say the least.

What Chris Sale’s return means for the Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox don’t have a great starting rotation right now. They have Eduardo Rodriguez, Nathan Eovaldi, Garrett Richards, and Nick Pivetta. The fifth spot is currently open for grabs since the team moved Martin Perez to the bullpen.

The Red Sox tried to add an arm at the trade deadline but were unsuccessful in the Jose Berrios, and Max Scherzer sweepstakes. That being said, Chris Sale would be a massive addition to the very mediocre starting rotation in Fenway Park.

Sale’s name is all you need to know. Everyone knows how good he can be when healthy. He is more than capable of posting a sub-3.00 ERA right out of the gates and leading the Red Sox to the playoffs.

I don’t know about you, but I think it pretty much seals the deal for the Red Sox. Boston is at the top of the Wild Card race and is not too far behind the Tampa Bay Rays, who lead the AL East.

The Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and Seattle Mariners are all in the hunt but I don’t know if anyone will catch up to the Boston Red Sox when Chris Sale returns.
