Major League Baseball has several issues. They are seemingly unable to figure out how to market their players, and generally refuse to do so. There is a drastic lack of black players in the game, and with an interest in playing baseball in general. But those issues could be solved by putting more focus on Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson.

Anderson has some impressive people in his corner when it comes to being one of the faces of the game. Announcer Joe Buck called him “everything that is right about the game” during an interview where he said that the White Sox shortstop should be the face of baseball.

Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson deserves more attention

There are several players that the league can market around. Shohei Ohtani has become a superstar, someone that is must-watch television these days. Fernando Tatis Jr., Juan Soto, and Ronald Acuna Jr. are exciting players. Mike Trout is one of the greatest of all time. Mookie Betts, when healthy, is in the same class.

This is a group that Anderson deserves to be a part of as well. He has emerged as a star, leading the majors with a .335 batting average in 2019 and leading the AL in runs in 2020. His production has not been as strong this season, as he has posted a .300/.330/.457 batting line with 13 homers, 24 doubles, and 16 steals heading into Saturday, but he has still been an excellent player.

Anderson as one of the faces of the game also goes beyond statistical measurements. As Buck had said, he plays hard all the time, playing the game the right way while having fun on the diamond. These are the players that MLB should be looking to make front and center.

It is also another area where representation counts. As MLB looks to have more diversity in youth baseball, having someone such as Anderson, who kids can point to as a role model, will make a difference. This may help with their plans to grow the game, especially in black communities.
