Kansas City Royals: Whit Merrifield gets strange Cameo request

With the advent of apps such as Cameo, fans can get messages from their favorite ballplayers or celebrities. It is a way to have more of a connection, to get to feel as though they know a bit about their idols. Or, as was the case for Kansas City Royals‘ second baseman Whit Merrifield, it is a place to receive strange requests.

He had one such request recently. During an interview on 610 AM, Merrifield stated that he was hired on Cameo to break up with someone’s girlfriend.

Let’s face it – money is money. Merrifield did get his with that request. And this is going to be the type of situation that will provide him with a go-to story for the rest of his life.

It also makes sense for Merrifield to absolutely roast the person that hired him. While he clearly wanted to end the relationship, he did not want to go through the trouble of doing so himself. Instead, he paid Merrifield to handle the situation, leading to a great deal of mockery.

Merrifield may have a second job lined up when his playing time comes to an end. He can clearly take a bad situation and make the best of it, a skill that few people possess. While this may not be what he had intended his Cameo to become, sometimes a path in life is chosen for a person instead of the other way around.

This does not have to be limited to personal relationships either. Merrifield can be called upon to announce layoffs or someone being fired. He could deliver news about a business closing or a tragedy in the family. As he was able to turn this situation into a positive, who knows what avenues he could travel.
