The New York Yankees just keep rolling along. After being left for dead due to COVID outbreaks, issues with the rotation, and a lineup that continued to underperform, they have been on fire. With their victory on Friday night, the Yankees have won 13 consecutive games, steamrolling into a Wild Card spot while chasing down the Rays for the division.

That winning streak also marked their 35th victory in their past 46 games. The Yankees had accomplished that feat five other times in the expansion era, with each year having something in common.

New York Yankees should start preparing championship parade

Every other season where the Yankees won 35 games in a 46 game stretch ended in a championship. That 2009 season also marked the Yankees’ last appearance in the World Series, a streak they are looking to end. Based on their history, they stand a great chance of doing so this year.

They are not doing so in the expected manner. Even after acquiring Joey Gallo and Anthony Rizzo, the lineup is still highly dependant upon Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. Nestor Cortes Jr. has emerged as the savior of the rotation. Jonathan Loaisiga has started to get save opportunities as Aroldis Chapman has begun to falter.

And yet, it is working. The Yankees have roared back seemingly from the dead, looking to be a dangerous team heading into the postseason. They are also starting to get healthy again, as Corey Kluber is expected back relatively soon. That return can only help.

The Yankees still have a long road ahead. They need to continue this momentum over the final month of the regular season and then fight their way through the playoffs. But history is on their side considering the results every other time they have had this sort of streak.

The New York Yankees have won 35 out of their past 46 games. Based on history, they should start preparing for their championship parade.
