The Los Angeles Angels lack of success is not a mystery. While they have been able to supplement the lineup with solid pieces, the same cannot be said of the pitching staff. They have attempted to slap together their rotation with one year deals and various spare parts, leading to a disaster that everyone outside of the organization saw coming.

But there is one pitcher that could help change that. Max Scherzer is slated to become a free agent, and according to reports, Mike Trout is heavily invested in bringing him to the Angels.

Los Angeles Angels desperately need Max Scherzer

The Angels would not be the only team interested in Scherzer’s services. Virtually any team that is looking to win a title in the next two to three years would want to bring him on board to head their rotation, especially as he is not showing any signs of slowing down.

But the Angels may need him more than any other franchise if they hope to contend. While Shohei Ohtani has displayed the ability to be a staff ace, he does not have that same track record. The rest of the Angels rotation could be comprised of promising young arms, which bodes well for the future, but not for any hopes of contending in 2022.

Scherzer, meanwhile, would change the script. Although he is already 37 years old, he has been as dominant as ever, posting a 15-4 record with a major league leading 2.28 ERA and a 0.828 WHiP over his 174 innings. He has struck out 232 batters with just 39 walks, helping position himself as one of the frontrunners for the NL Cy Young award.

His presence would also help those young arms. Scherzer has been through the battles, winning a championship while forging a Hall of Fame caliber career. He can be someone that helps teach these pitchers how to be major leaguers and develop as the Angels hope.

There will be plenty of teams interested in adding Max Scherzer this offseason. If Mike Trout has his way, Scherzer’s next stop will be with the Los Angeles Angels.
