As teams are being eliminated from the postseason picture, they are beginning to look towards the offseason and free agency. Wish lists are being made, teams are figuring out their biggest needs, and budgets are being determined. The Los Angeles Angels are one of those teams that have an eye towards the offseason as they play out the string.

But that does not mean that teams are without optimism. If Mike Trout is to be believed, there should be plenty of optimism surrounding the Angels’ offseason as he feels that they have plenty of money to spend and the right people in the position to make those moves.

Mike Trout has high hopes for Los Angeles Angels offseason

Trout has already made some of his hopes for the offseason known. He wants the Angels to pursue Max Scherzer, giving them the top of the rotation arm that they desperately need. However, anyone that follows the game could safely say that the Angels need someone of Scherzer’s caliber as the rotation has been a continued sore spot.

The Angels also have to contend with more than the acumen of their front office. Owner Arte Moreno is not the most patient of beings as he demonstrated last offseason. The Angels and Dodgers had a deal in place that would have sent Ross Stripling across town, but Moreno forced the team to back out of the deal when it was taking too long to resolve.

Nonetheless, there are plenty of reasons to feel good about the Angels moving forward. Trout will be back and healthy for the start of the 2022 season. Shohei Ohtani has proven that he can be that two way star that everyone had hoped for. There are several solid young arms on the cusp of contributing at the major league level. The future is reasonably bright in Los Angeles.

It is a matter of finding the right pieces to add to that core. Most of the heavy lifting will involve improving the bullpen and looking to add a top of the rotation arm. Trout, as he looks ahead, seems to feel that those are attainable goals.
