Los Angeles Dodgers: Trea Turner on impressive career path
The first seven years of a player’s career are hardly enough time to tell what the future will hold. There have been numerous players throughout major league history to begin their careers in impressive fashion, only to fade as time went on. Either injuries or just ineffectiveness led to those once bright futures never coming to pass. The Los Angeles Dodgers are hoping that will not be the case with Trea Turner.
On Sunday, Turner joined an exclusive club, as he became the seventh known player in major league history to hit 100 homers and steal 200 bases over the first seven years of their career.

This group does bode well for Turner’s overall future. Both Barry Bonds and Bobby Bonds are members of the 300-300 club, two of only eight players in MLB history to reach those plateaus. All of those players were multiple time All Stars, players who were important pieces of their lineups.
It is also interesting that none of those players are in the Hall of Fame. While Barry Bonds may find that Cooperstown comes calling at some point in the future, he is likely to be the only one on that list to be immortalized in the Hall.
That is, unless Turner has something to say about that. He has put together a solid start to his career, posting a 121 OPS+ with 100 homers and 202 steals in his 3004 plate appearances. If Turner can continue that type of production while remaining at short, Cooperstown could end up calling for him at some point in the future as well.
But Turner will need to continue this level of production. As the other members of this list show, that can be easier said than done. Turner will need to buck history and find a way to keep being the all around offensive force he has been in order to have the type of career that he is seemingly on pace for.
Trea Turner joined an exclusive group with his home run on Sunday. Now he needs to show that he can continue to be a dominant force.
