Atlanta Braves: Terrance Gore continues to be October weapon
Terrance Gore has one job in baseball – to be fast. Teams that expect to contend for the postseason stash him as minor league depth, keeping him in Triple-A with plans to add him to the October roster. That is exactly what the Atlanta Braves did this season.
And that plan worked to perfection. As the Braves were able to add players who were not on the 40 man roster due to injuries, Gore is back for the NLDS.
Atlanta Braves bring Terrance Gore back for another playoff run
Gore did not appear at all in the majors in 2021. In fact, he had only 85 plate appearances in Triple-A, producing a .680 OPS. Even though he will never produce much with the bat, Gore did steal 18 bases and scored 19 runs during his time in Gwinnett.
That is essentially what keeps him on the periphery of the majors. Gore can change a game with his legs, using his speed to distract a pitcher late. With those relievers having to pay attention to him on the basepaths, they may leave a pitch in a bad location, letting the hitter tee off.
Even if that does not happen, Gore can produce a run on his own. He has five steals and three runs scored in his nine postseason appearances, majority of which came during his time with the Royals. But he remains a player that teams like to have on their roster, just in case.
He will get another chance this postseason. Even if Gore does not enter a single game, the threat of having him on the bench, ready to fly around the basepaths, will give opposing managers a reason to pause. Gore may be the ultimate one tool player, essentially the modern day Herb Washington, but that tool is special.
Terrance Gore is back in the postseason. The Atlanta Braves have added the noted speedster to their roster for the NLDS.
