On Thursday, every Major League Baseball team turned their social media profiles purple to support LGBTQIA+ youth. They are spreading the message that bullying is not okay, and that baseball is for everyone, regardless of orientation. That is, every team aside from the Texas Rangers.

Oh, the Rangers went through the motions. They changed their profile to purple, and put up a generic anti-bullying message. But they notably refused to put any reference to LBTQIA+ youth anywhere in their posts.

Texas Rangers continue to be an embarrassment to MLB

To be fair, absolutely no one should be surprised. After all, 29 major league teams have a Pride Night. That one exception? The Texas Rangers, who flat out refuse to have a night of inclusion at the ballpark.

More Rangers. Choo sizzles in KBO. light

Neil Leibman, COO of the Rangers, makes this refusal to be a part of these initiatives even more revolting. He just so happens to be the chairman of MLB’s diversity, equality, and inclusion committee. Seems like he’s doing a whole lot to back up the statements from the league that his committee happens to approve.

This is not just a Texas Rangers issue. The league, as a whole, has done a terrible job in honoring some of their trailblazers in the community, particularly Glenn Burke. Major League Baseball certainly needs to get better when it comes to walking the walk.

But the league is making at least a token attempt. That is far more than can be said about the Rangers, who seem content to stuff their heads in the sand and pretend that the community does not exist. Based on their constant inaction and history, that is not going to change any time soon.
