There are very few things that Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto cannot do on the diamond. He has established himself as one of the brightest young stars in the game, a potential building block that the Nationals would like to base their future around. In just four years, he is showing the type of skillset that could make him a generational player.

However, every player gets interested in testing themselves in other sports. Such was the case with Soto, who took to the ice on Thursday. Needless to say, that attempt did not go very well.

Washington Nationals do not need to worry about Juan Soto changing sports

Where to begin? Should we focus on how he completely missed his first shot attempt? Or how he fell over after he actually connected with the puck? And is he wearing sneakers on the ice? No wonder he was unable to keep his feet.

We see players moonlight in other sports from time to time. Russell Wilson has appeared in the odd spring training game. Chad Ochocinco once tried out for a soccer team. Michael Jordan infamously took a year from the NBA to play in Double-A for a season.

But there is a reason why those players are better known for their performance in other sports. They became stars based on their skillsets, which simply were not able to translate in other aspects. No matter how great they may be, they will not find that same greatness in other avenues.

Such is the case with Soto. He certainly looked as though he was having fun on the ice, enjoying himself no matter how badly that time may have gone. But there is a reason why he is in the majors instead of playing hockey – that’s where his talent lies. Those eight seconds certainly show that to be the case.
