For one day, Atlanta Braves‘ second baseman Ozzie Albies will be beloved by anyone who enjoys a taco. With his steal of second in the top of the first inning, he ensured that everyone will get a free taco on November 4, doing more to feed minor league players than Major League Baseball did this season.
But that steal means far more than a quick snack for everyone. Since the free taco for a stolen base program came out, the team that gives everyone that taco is 7-2 in the World Series, and has not lost since 2017.
Ozzie Albies may have given the Atlanta Braves the championship
Obviously, there is a long way to go. One steal in the first inning does not mean anything over the course of a seven game series. Momentum will change, sometimes inning to inning. That one play could be rendered moot soon enough.
It is, however, worth noting the history of teams when they steal that first base for a free taco. That trend is just far too much to ignore, even if it is just a coincidence. With the Braves looking to win their first title since 1995, they will certainly take any help they can get.
The Braves have had more than just that steal. Jorge Soler led off the game with a home run, setting the tone for the evening. Adam Duvall had a two run bomb of his own in the third to extend the Braves lead. If they are going to win the World Series, it will be a team effort. And maybe, the luck of the taco will be with them.
Ozzie Albies has given everyone a free taco with his first inning steal. In doing so, he may have won the World Series for the Atlanta Braves.
