The Los Angeles Dodgers have a $40 million elephant in the room as they make plans for the offseason. Trevor Bauer‘s status is still uncertain, as his legal issues and Major League Baseball’s investigation are ongoing. A suspension is likely coming down, but no one knows how long that will last.

Naturally, this has led to some difficult questions for the Dodgers’ front office, including whether or not they regret the signing. In this case, silence speaks louder than words.

Los Angeles Dodgers silence speaks volumes on Trevor Bauer

It is understandable that the Dodgers are avoiding the topic for now. There are still plenty of moving parts, especially as his case is in the legal system. Even if those proceedings end up in Bauer’s favor, MLB still needs to determine their punishment for his actions.

In a vacuum, the Dodgers could use Bauer. Both Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer are free agents, leaving a gaping void atop the rotation. Bauer did have a stellar 2.59 ERA and a 1.003 WHiP in his 107.2 innings, striking out 137 batters with 37 walks before being placed on administrative leave.

But there are other issues. Players on the Dodgers have been adamant that they do not want Bauer back with the team. His actions, as well as his behavior throughout his career, have turned him into a pariah in the game.

In the end, it comes down to what the front office decides. If they feel that Bauer can be a piece of a championship team, they may keep him on board. However, if they feel the distraction, or the backlash to his presence, will be too much, he may never pitch for the Dodgers again. The silence from the front office, and their refusal to even acknowledge his existence, appears to be saying more than their words ever would. And that is that Bauer will not be welcomed back.
