Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr used the perfect combination of his NFL team’s off week and the World Series to show off his son’s pitching skills on social media.

Using what appears to be a softer type of ball inside his house, the Raiders signal-caller stood in the batter’s box and took an array of pitches from his son. Included in those were some that former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Bob Gibson would have loved to have seen as the younger Carr made sure his dad didn’t crowd the plate.

First, let’s give some credit to Carr for playing ball with his kids inside the house. Cool dad points all the way there.

Second, let’s give some credit to his son, who has developed a pretty wicked pitch delivery, mixing up locations and speeds.

Of course, the elder Carr has a pretty good arm of his own, leading his team to the top of the AFC West with a 5-2 mark behind 2,269 yards and 12 touchdowns. The 30-year-old Carr will also reach the 30,000-yard passing milestone later this season. His Raiders are off this week before meeting the New York Giants on November 7.

Growing up in Bakersfield, Calif., Carr has admitted that he is a Los Angeles Dodgers fan, saying that his first baseball games ever attended were cheering on the Dodgers. Despite playing for the Oakland Raiders from 2014-2019 in the same stadium as the Oakland A’s took the field, it seems that Carr’s baseball heart stayed in Southern California.

How much of a Dodgers fan is Carr? Don’t forget that, during the 2020 season, Carr used “Clayton Kershaw” as one of his audibles.

The big question, of course, is, “What kind of grip is Carr’s son using on that ball?” That’s some movement that would make Jacob deGrom and Adam Ottavino jealous.
