Sometimes, a player is just in the right place at the right time. That was the case for Houston Astros pitcher Jose Urquidy on Sunday night.
Urquidy came in to pitch the fourth inning with the Astros trailing 5-4. A three run top of the fifth would eventually give him the victory, making Urquidy the all time World Series win leader amongst foreign born pitchers.

That win total is even more remarkable when one considers that Urquidy has a total of four appearances in the World Series, with just two starts. He finished out the Astros’ loss in Game Seven of the 2019 World Series, but has won in every other appearance that he has made in the Fall Classic.
Urquidy has certainly done his part when he has been on the mound. He has allowed just two runs on ten hits in his 11.2 World Series innings, striking out 11 without issuing a walk. Both of those runs came in his outing in Game Two this year, a 7-2 victory where he allowed two runs on six hits over five innings, striking out seven.
It is entirely possible that he will add to his record this year. Luis Garcia is expected to start Game Six, but that does not mean Urquidy is done. He could get the start should the Astros extend the series to a seventh game, a move that would make sense given his track record.
Even if the series ends on Tuesday, Urquidy has put his name in the history books. In just four outings, he has the most wins of any foreign born pitcher in World Series history. It is certainly an impressive accomplishment for a pitcher who has spent parts of three seasons in the majors.
It has not taken long for Jose Urquidy to make World Series history. The Houston Astros pitcher may not be done adding to his record.
