The New York Yankees and their fans are cognizant of their history. It is ingrained in the franchise, from their 27 rings to their litany of legendary players. These players have captured the imagination of generations of fans, instilling a rabid following amongst the fanbase.
If someone wants to alienate the Yankees and their fans, all they have to do is criticize one of those legendary players. That is something that Carlos Correa will end up learning after his criticism of Derek Jeter, saying that the former Yankees’ shortstop did not deserve to win any of his five Gold Glove awards.
Carlos Correa clearly not going to New York Yankees or Miami Marlins
Those comments clearly show that Correa is not heading to the Yankees. Likewise, he is not heading to the Marlins either, as that would be a relatively awkward conversation with Jeter. Now he has to pick from the other 28 teams in the league for his next home.
One can certainly question Jeter’s defense based on the metrics. He is considered to have cost the Yankees 165 runs at short, although that number only goes back as far as 2003. Likewise, his range was considered subpar. However, Jeter knew exactly where to position himself for every batter, making his range irrelevant. He also had a knack for making the key defensive play when the Yankees needed it most.
Correa is already detested amongst Yankees fans. He was a part of the 2017 AstroGate team which eliminated the Yankees in seven games in the ALCS. He would have faced a tall task in getting the fanbase to his side had he considered signing in New York.
That ship has sailed. Correa has ensured that he will be forever hated by Yankees fans due to his denigration of their iconic shortstop. He is, once again, Public Enemy Number One; but this time, it is not for his actions on the diamond.
Carlos Correa is going to have plenty of suitors this offseason. After his comments about Derek Jeter, the New York Yankees will not be among them.
