The Major League Baseball owners’ meetings are being held in Chicago and New York Yankees owner, Hal Steinbrenner, is making some shockwaves in regards to the Houston Astros.

The Astros have had their cheating scandal from 2017 been brought up at every road game they played in 2021, whether it was Jose Altuve or Carlos Correa being showered by boos, receiving chants of “cheater,” or even hearing fans hitting trash cans.

But New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner says that it’s time to “move on”

When asked about whether or not the New York Yankees were considering signing Carlos Correa on the free agent market and the Houston Astros cheating scandal, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner said that it’s time for people to “move on.”

“I think, hopefully, most people have moved on from that,” Steinbrenner said. “I think it’s only healthy to move on from things like that instead of stewing on it year after year. But, you know, people have the opinion that they want to have about that particular player.”

The only problem with Steinbrenner’s statement is the lack of punishment to the players from Major League Baseball. Since the punishment came out from MLB in the 2019-2020 offseason, the players were granted immunity. The pandemic also hit so fans could not voice their displeasure with the Houston Astros at games.

As a result, players who were on the 2017 Astros, primarily Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa, just faced the music with fans for the first time in 2021. However, Altuve and Correa were able to successfully ignore the boos and chants as Correa was an All-Star and earned a Gold Glove Award in 2021 and Altuve was an All-Star as well.

They both were key pieces for the Astros to get to the World Series in the third time in five years in 2021 and play in the ALCS in each season since 2017.

Most fans will eventually “move on” from the boos and chants, but Altuve and Correa, in particular, may receive it for the rest of their career. However, it may not happen in 2022, regardless of whether or not Correa signs elsewhere.
