The Colorado Rockies have already established themselves to be a rather questionable organization. Even though Trevor Story and Jon Gray are likely to leave in free agency, they have done everything possible to keep the same roster together.

This extends to the trade front. The Rockies are again refusing to sell as they are somehow convinced that they can compete in the NL West in 2022.

Colorado Rockies still refuse to recognize reality

It should not be a surprise that the Rockies are refusing to trade any of their players. After all, they did not make a single move at the trade deadline last year, even though it was clear that Story would not play another game for the franchise once his contract was over. That level of incompetence has been the status quo for the front office for years.

More Rockies. Ian Desmond still exists. light

But there was hope that maybe the new general manager would see things differently. Yes, he failed to make a move at the trade deadline, but the job was not his yet. And yes, he has been a part of the organization for years, but maybe he could be realistic about the Rockies’ chances.

That is not the case. Reality is still a foreign concept and alternate facts still rule the day. The Rockies have locked in pieces of the 74 win team to keep the core together, and are refusing to deal any assets that will not be around for the long term. In their universe, they can contend with the Padres, Giants, and Dodgers.

To be fair, nothing else should be expected. The Rockies have not been a competently run franchise in years. To expect that they will do anything logical, including trading players to improve their future, is an exercise in futility.
