According to Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors, the free agent market for starting pitcher Marcus Stroman is starting to heat up. Dierkes says that a handful of teams, including the Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox, and Los Angeles Angels are interested in adding Marcus Stroman to their starting rotation in 2022.

Jon Morosi of MLB.com also adds that the Seattle Mariners are interested in Stroman as well.

The Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, and San Francisco Giants are among teams interested in Marcus Stroman.

Marcus Stroman, who turns 31 in May, had a good season for the New York Mets after opting out of the 2020 season due to the pandemic. His good season is why some other teams like the Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Angels, and Seattle Mariners are also interested in him.

In 2021, Stroman had a bad win-loss record (10-13), but there’s a reason why win-loss records are rarely looked at now: They say little about the pitcher and more about the run support (in the case of Stroman, pathetic run support) that a pitcher gets. He had an ERA of 3.02 in an MLB-lead-tying 33 starts. He had a good FIP of 3.49 and struck out nearly eight batters per nine innings while only walking slightly more than two batters per nine innings.

In 2019, he posted the same exact record and similar ERAs (10-13 record but had an ERA of 3.22). He also made his first All-Star team. That season came after he struggled with injuries in 2018, which was his final season with the Toronto Blue Jays, but in 2017, he came in eighth in AL Cy Young voting.

MLB Trade Rumors had Stroman as their #11 free agent on their list of Top 50 Free Agents list this offseason and they project that he will get a contract for five years and $110 million. With the way the offseason has developed thus far, Stroman may get a bigger contract that is even larger than that and it sounds like it could be sooner rather than later.
