The general consensus is that Freddie Freeman will be returning to the Atlanta Braves. It is difficult to imagine him in another uniform after he has spent the first dozen years of his major league career in Atlanta, but free agency is a different situation. For the first time in his career, Freeman can field offers from other teams.

While he is interested in returning to Atlanta, there is a limit to how long he is going to wait. According to reports, Freeman is starting to get impatient with the Braves’ front office in regards to a contract offer.

Freeman has been a franchise icon during his time in Atlanta. He has put together the beginnings of a Hall of Fame career, one that should see him inducted while wearing a Braves hat. That career should continue, and eventually end, in Atlanta.

But there comes a time when patience wears thin. That is where Freeman is now as he has yet to hear back from the Braves. As such, his representatives have begun negotiating with other teams, as the Dodgers, Yankees, and Blue Jays have reached out regarding his availability.

Although he was unable to replicate his MVP season from 2020, Freeman still had a strong showing last year. He produced an excellent .300/.393/.503 batting line in his 695 plate appearances, hitting 31 homers and 25 doubles. Freeman won his third Silver Slugger award, made his fifth All Star team, and finishing ninth in the NL MVP vote.

Although he is 32 years old, Freeman should have some strong seasons left. He is also a leader on the Braves, someone whose presence makes the franchise better. The Braves also need him back – they simply do not have a player who can step in and take his place. The highest ranked first baseman in their farm system is Greyson Jenista, who is ranked 30th in the organization by MLB.com.

Freddie Freeman is still expected to sign with the Atlanta Braves. However, he is starting to get impatient with the process and could look elsewhere.
