Freddie Freeman to Toronto Blue Jays rumors picking up steam
It is expected that Freddie Freeman will eventually return to the Braves. Although negotiations have not been fruitful, and Freeman was beginning to get impatient, those expectations remain in place. However, his representatives have reached out to the Toronto Blue Jays and Yankees to gauge their interest in bringing Freeman on board.
There may be something to those rumors. According to Jeff Passan, there “is a lot of smoke” around the Blue Jays and Freeman.
Toronto Blue Jays serious players for Freddie Freeman
Freeman clearly has a strong market and will have plenty of offers once the lockout is over. Passan also noted that it will be difficult for the Blue Jays to outbid the Braves, Yankees, and Dodgers for his services.
But Freeman may be looking at more than taking the largest contract. He has finally won a World Series and could be looking to win as much as possible. Likewise, he is on pace for the Hall of Fame career. He could be looking for an organization that will give him a chance to not only win another title, but to further pad his resume for Cooperstown.
The Blue Jays could fit that criteria. They have an impressive young roster, one that seems to be on the precipice of taking the next step to contention. Their starting rotation has improved as well and there are several young arms on the cusp of reaching the majors. Toronto could be on the verge of having a perennial playoff contender.
That could be an enticing draw for Freeman. He has a championship and can teach that young roster what it takes to win in the postseason. In turn, that impressive lineup can lead to more opportunities for Freeman to make that push for the Hall of Fame over the second half of his career.
The Toronto Blue Jays are serious contenders for Freddie Freeman. Even if he is expected to return to Atlanta, it may not be an easy decision.
