The owners’ decision to lock out the players when the CBA expired was not a surprise. The two sides are not close to an agreement, making the lockout an anticipated negotiation tactic. For now, the only question that remains is how long this labor stoppage will last and whether or not it will affect the season.
The Texas Rangers have some optimism. They have announced that they will begin selling spring training ticket packages on Monday, giving hope that the lockout may not last as long as feared.
Texas Rangers optimistic that lockout will be short lived
One would have to imagine that the Rangers would have some inside knowledge of the situation. After all, their owner is part of the group that voted unanimously for the lockout. Ownership would also have to approve the ticket packages being sold and their advertising.
It is also possible that the Rangers are just looking to capitalize on sales while there is still some excitement about their offseason. Although they are not expected to contend in 2022, the Rangers have provided their fans hope for the first time in years. Corey Seager, Jon Gray, and Marcus Semien are a great start to rebuilding the franchise.
Spring training may not begin on time either. The lockout, and CBA negotiations, could push that back for weeks. Any dates on those tickets sold may be subject to change depending on the status of the labor stoppage.
But there is hope. Neither the owners nor the players want to miss out on the momentum caused by that flurry of signings before the lockout. Interest was peaking before everything came to a screeching halt. A quick resolution to these negotiations, and a new CBA, could make this offseason even more memorable.
The Texas Rangers are putting their spring training ticket packages on sale beginning on Monday. This appears to be a sign of optimism regarding the lockout.
