New York Mets add international outfielder Jaycey Benita
The New York Mets have been busy during the lockout. They have determined their finalists for their managerial opening and are expected to name that new manager later in the week. Despite those interviews and attempting to find the right person on the bench, the Mets have also been able to add to their roster.
This has come in the form of an international prospect. The Mets have reportedly signed international free agent Jaycey Benita to a contract.

There is little information about Benita. He signed out of Curaçao, an area that has become one of the hotbeds for international talent over the years. As the island territory has been an area where the Braves have acquired a good amount of talent, it is possible that they were able to pluck him from their division rivals.
Benita’s frame does allow for projection. He is listed as standing 6’1″ tall, but weighing 157 pounds. That frame does not exactly give hope that Benita would be much of a power threat at this point in his development.
It stands to reason that Benita will fill out as he gets older and grows into his body. Likewise, better coaching and time in the Mets system will potentially get his raw talent to develop, especially as he improves his frame.
