Andruw Jones made an impact in Major League Baseball for 17 seasons, including 12 in an Atlanta Braves uniform. Even though he stopped playing after the 2012 season, it’s possible that his impact on the game at the Major League level on the field will start back up again with this year’s MLB draft.

Druw Jones, yes, Andruw’s son, has been tabbed as the top MLB Draft prospect heading into the 2022 draft. For that draft, the Baltimore Orioles have the top overall pick, followed by the Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers.

Here’s why the son of an Atlanta Braves legend could be the top overall draft pick in the 2022 MLB draft

Listen below to what was said about the abilities of Druw Jones when it was announced he was being rated as the top overall player available for the draft.

During his time with the Atlanta Braves, it was argued that Andruw Jones, in his fifth year on the Baseball Hall of Fame ballot, established himself as perhaps the best center fielder to ever play, earning 10 consecutive Gold Gloves. Druw Jones, meanwhile, at 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, has also earned plenty of accolades for his play in the outfield, with this article saying Jones, “glides to the ball with advanced footwork and athleticism, plenty of arm strength with on line carry and plus accuracy, pure centerfield tools.”

Also, Andruw and Druw Jones share another similarity, both donning number 25 on the back of their jerseys.

The younger Jones has committed to play baseball at Vanderbilt University and took part in the MLB/USA Baseball All-American Game during All-Star Game festivities this past July at Coors Field in Denver. In September, he earned MVP honors at the Baseball Factory All-America game played at Kauffman Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals.

Expect to hear plenty about Druw Jones between now and the 2022 MLB draft, including whether he might start his professional career over heading to Vanderbilt.
