You know that someone is a terrible umpire whenever they are brought up in any instance of ridiculousness on the diamond. Such is the case with Angel Hernandez, someone who obviously has compromising pictures of Rob Manfred to be allowed to continue in his chosen profession.

Hernandez found himself trending on social media on Monday despite the lockout. The reason – an apparently intoxicated umpire had to be removed from the diamond after flipping off fans and arguing with players and coaches.

Drunken Mexican League umpire might be better than Angel Hernandez

The umpire in question is not some neophyte. Humberto “Lobito” Saiz is a 32 year veteran of various leagues in Mexico and would definitely know better than to be channeling Josh Hamilton. Nonetheless, he may still have done a better job than Hernandez.

While Saiz is likely to receive some semblance of punishment, and likely be forced to turn over any flasks he may have hidden in his equipment, the same has happened with Hernandez. He does not have the excuse of being intoxicated on the diamond – he is just utterly horrendous at his job.

It speaks volumes to Hernandez’s incompetence that he immediately came to mind for so many baseball fans that his name began trending. Hernandez is a complete joke on the diamond and a punchline off of it – someone whose continued presence cannot be explained.

It also speaks to a complete lack of credibility for Hernandez. If seeing an obviously intoxicated and belligerent umpire leads one to think of him, how can anyone take Hernandez seriously? The simple answer is that no one can. And yet, he remains in the game.

A drunken umpire in Mexico led to Angel Hernandez trending on social media. Sadly, the drunken umpire may be better than his MLB counterpart.
