Rob Manfred was already an extremely unpopular figure amongst baseball fans and the players. The decision made by MLB Network to not bring Ken Rosenthal back due to his criticism of Manfred went over like a lead balloon on social media as the well regarded reporter was praised for his integrity. This also gave players, such as Atlanta Braves pitcher Tyler Matzek, a chance to take their shots at the commissioner.

Matzek certainly did not hold back with his thoughts about Rosenthal and Manfred, taking to Twitter to speak his mind.

Atlanta Braves reliever Tyler Matzek still notching wins

Matzek had already become a fan favorite over the past couple of years. He has changed the narrative about his career, going from a one time draft bust to a dominant arm out of the bullpen. His ability to take his game to another level during the postseason has only continued to elevate his stature amongst Braves fans.

While he has been a key part of the bullpen, his playoff performance has earned the most attention. He has a 4-0 record with a 1.48 ERA and a 0.945 WHiP in 24.1 postseason innings, striking out 38 batters with just seven walks. That domination has helped Matzek earn the unusual nickname of ‘Nutsack’ for his ability to step up in those big moments.

Matzek has also become an entertaining figure on social media over the past few months. He began tweeting more after the most recent postseason because, as he stated, “Who would have cared what a 28 year old Indy ball player would have to say. “Just got on the bus, 26 hours till we arrive in the middle of nowhere to play a team at the local YMCA.”” He is certainly self aware.

That self awareness and ability to poke fun at himself have helped Matzek become such a fan favorite in a short time. The same can be said for the fact that he will speak his mind. This latest tweet taking a shot at Manfred for Rosenthal’s dismissal is yet another example of why Matzek has become so beloved.
