This week, one story in the news has been with Little Caesars increasing the price of their $5 pizza to $5.55. Little Caesars is owned by the Ilitch Family, who own NHL’s Detroit Red Wings, various Detroit casinos, and the Detroit Tigers.
This offseason, the Tigers spent $217 million on starting pitcher Eduardo Rodríguez and infielder Javier Báez, with Báez earning nearly two-thirds of that.
Rogelio Castillo of our sister site, Motor City Bengals, which covers the Tigers posted this on Twitter about it.
Insert the same lame joke heard a thousand times about how this money will pay for the Javier Baez contract. https://t.co/etdfs1ex51

But with the two happening in close proximity, it begs the question.
Is Detroit Tigers infielder Javier Báez increasing your pizza price at Little Caesars?
The simple answer? No. The Detroit Tigers signing infielder Javier Báez (and starting pitcher Eduardo Rodríguez) are not the reasons why the pizza price is increasing at Little Caesars.
According to their press release, Little Caesars will be increasing their regular pizza price 11 percent from $5 to $5.55 (plus tax). However, they claim that the reason behind the price is because their pizza will be “new and improved.” Each pizza will have 33 percent more pepperoni and, at $5.55, they claim that their pizzas are still at the “country’s most affordable price.”
Little Caesars isn’t the only franchise that has had to increase its price, though, as, most famously, The Dollar Tree has increased their prices from $1 to $1.25.
The Ilitch Family opened the chain in Detroit in 1959 and now, it is the third-largest pizza chain in the United States. They coined their ‘Hot-N-Ready” pizza in 2001, which made them the first pizza chain to have pizza ready with no preordering. They were also named “Best Value in America” for the past 14 years among fast-food chains.
As for the Detroit Tigers, they have definitely made some strides to become a more competitive team but even in the weak AL Central, they will still have to do more once the lockout ends to be a playoff contender in 2022.
