The New York Mets circus reached a nadir with Zack Scott. The interim general manager was arrested for driving while intoxicated after he was found asleep in his car on the side of the road. The Mets placed him on administrative leave and he was eventually let go from the organization.

Scott’s saga came to an end on Thursday. He was found not guilty on both of the charges that he faced in connection to that incident.

There was a time where Scott seemed to be the future for the general manager position in New York. He had come into the role when Jared Porter was fired due to his past sexual harassment and the 2021 campaign seemed as though it would be his audition.

Although the Mets had begun tanking after the trade deadline, that was not necessarily Scott’s fault. He had made the moves that were deemed necessary, adding rotation depth and bringing in Javier Baez to pair with Francisco Lindor. Those moves earned high marks, and with his experience, Scott seemed to be a shoo-in for the permanent job.

But that changed with his arrest. Scott was placed on administrative leave and let go from the organization once the season came to an end. The Mets hired Billy Eppler as their GM a few weeks later and have focused on restocking the roster.

It remains to be seen if Scott will return to baseball in some capacity. He had been a well respected figure in the game prior to his arrest and subsequent dismissal from New York. However, this not guilty verdict may pave a road back in with another organization.
