The Atlanta Braves World Series victory was a bittersweet moment for Ronald Acuna Jr. He was now a world champion, but had to watch from the sidelines as he had torn his ACL in July. As the Braves look to defend their title, they will need Acuna to be back to form.

The Braves and their fans got positive news on that front. Acuna took batting practice on Wednesday for the first time since starting rehab.

Ronald Acuna Jr. shows Atlanta Braves fans what they missed

Yes, it is just a short video at the end of a batting practice round. However, Acuna looked like himself in the batter’s box, driving the ball with authority. Even if it is just 20 seconds or so, it is still more action than anyone had seen from Acuna since July.

It is also a reason for optimism. The Braves star outfielder was in the midst of another impressive season when he was injured, posting a .283/.394/.596 batting line in his 360 plate appearances. He had belted 24 homers while stealing 17 bases, giving him an outside chance at joining the 40-40 club.

Chances are that Acuna will not be running at the same level he had been prior to his injury. Even if he is completely healthy and playing in the outfield, it takes some time to gain that trust back in any severely injured area. That is likely to be the case here as well.

But that may not matter too much. So long as Acuna continues to hit as he has in the past, the Braves would be more than willing to forgo a bit of adventurousness on the basepaths. His importance in the lineup will be even more pronounced should the unexpected happen and Freddie Freeman does not return.
