Chicago White Sox: Jake Burger shows offseason workout (video)
After finally making his Major League Baseball debut last season, Chicago White Sox prospect Jake Burger is showing how he’s working this offseason to make his stay in the Majors even longer in 2022.
In a video posted to Instagram, Chicago White Sox prospect Jake Burger showed how he is getting ready for the 2022 season.
Taken with the 11th overall pick in the 2017 MLB draft, Burger was overcome plenty of injuries in his young career on his way to the Chicago White Sox. He ruptured his left Achilles tendon in February of 2018, then tore it again during a rehab workout. He’s also dealt with a heel bruise that cost him the 2019 season before finally landing with the White Sox in their alternate site during the 2020 pandemic-shortened campaign.
However, none of that could stop Burger from reaching his MLB dream, and that dream became a reality on July 2 when he went 2-for-4 in a White Sox road win over the Detroit Tigers.
The 25-year-old Burger went on to slash .263/.333/.474 in 38 at-bats while seeing action in eight games at third base.
Now that Burger has reached the Majors, his goal is to get back there in 2022. He showed exactly how he is working on his fielding and footwork in a recent video he posted to his Instagram account.
And yes, while Burger got in his action at third base last season for the White Sox, it’s widely thought he could potentially be the second baseman of the future for the franchise. With Yoan Moncada at third and the White Sox needing a boost at second base, Burger playing at second has been discussed by the White Sox. He did play there in five games for Triple-A Charlotte in 2021.
Wherever the White Sox choose to use him in 2022 and beyond, Burger is showing he isn’t letting the lockout slow him down from being ready for whenever the season might begin.
