Bartolo Colón hasn’t pitched in Major League Baseball since the 2018 season, but that doesn’t mean that the legend of “Big Sexy” has ever really died down in the minds of MLB fans. And now, with a video making the rounds on social media, there could be a next installment coming in the Colón pitching legacy.

This video of Bartolo Colón’s son, Randy, pitching is stirring up comparisons to his father … and Matt Harvey

Randy Colón is 12 years old but is already showing that he has an interest in following in his father’s footsteps on the mound. Well, kind of an interest, shall we say.

Yes, in a twist, Colón’s son like to hit perhaps more than pitch. And, despite all of Bartolo’s 565 games covering 3,461.2 innings on the mound and his 247 wins, it was a 2016 night in San Diego when the then-New York Mets starting pitcher made perhaps his most memorable moment on the diamond … and (apologies to his Cy Young Award earned in 2005) it wasn’t on the mound.

That swing is one of the biggest arguments for any National League purist against the designated hitter potentially coming to the NL in 2022.

Bartolo comparing his son’s pitching style to Matt Harvey is interesting as well. Harvey and Bartolo were teammates with the Mets for two seasons (2015 and 2016), and Harvey was solid during the 2015 campaign, going 13-8 with a 2.71 ERA, 3.05 FIP, 1.019 WHIP, and 140 ERA+. Should Randy eventually emulate that version of Harvey on the mound, there would be nothing wrong with that at all.

Next. Would this Mets-Brewers trade proposal work?. dark

So will Randy become a pitcher, a hitter, or both? We’ll have to keep watching his development to see exactly which way the younger Colón goes.
