The Cleveland Guardians did not get much love when it came to their name change. Not only did they find themselves facing a lawsuit from a roller derby team, but the fanbase was very unenthused with the choice. However, their ‘Winged G’ logo was generally considered a success and something that the fans were looking forward to seeing on the diamond.

Then the Guardians released their official on field hats. Much to the disappointment of the fanbase, the winged G is not a part of the design.

Cleveland Guardians take loss on new on field hats

On the plus side, the Guardians are going to have hats with the winged G logo, which they are hoping to have in the store by Opening Day. On the negative side, those hats will not be a part of the official on field uniform.

light. More Guardians. Will Vizquel fall off the ballot?

Instead, the Guardians are going to be using a variation of the block C that had been in place for the past few years. While that decision had made sense prior to the name chance when the team had been looking to move on from Chief Wahoo, that is no longer the case.

This time, the Guardians have a logo that is generally liked by the fanbase. Those hats, when available, are likely to sell quickly. It would have made sense to use the logo for their on field hats as well. But no, they are going with something that more closely resembles a default logo for a default setting on a fantasy league site.

Maybe that will change in time. It should be clear to the Guardians that the winged G logo is a hit. Maybe, with more time to figure out logistics and to set up new uniforms, they can incorporate the logo onto the hats. Or maybe they will think that the success of that logo is some sort of fluke and continue to send out the same boring look.

dark. Next. Guardians ownership richer than Yankees

The Cleveland Guardians have managed to create a relatively well liked logo. Naturally, they are not using it for their on field hats this year.
