Detroit Tigers
A team willing to spend money that happens to reside in one of the weakest divisions in the game? That could equal a ticket to the MLB postseason.
That is where the Tigers find themselves. They are starting to see the fruit of their rebuilding process, with several solid young arms on the verge of establishing themselves in the majors. Top prospects are coming to the lineup as well, with Spencer Torkelson and Riley Greene expected to make a major impact in 2022.
But the biggest reason for hope is that the Tigers are looking to spend. They added Eduardo Rodriguez to the top of their rotation, adding a proven veteran who has the potential to be a staff ace if he is healthy. Javier Baez may be a gamble, but he immediately upgrades their infield defense and adds some pop to the lineup.
The Tigers may not be done either. They are reportedly looking at other upgrades to their roster, potentially at third base and in the bullpen. While one can argue that third base is fine as is, there is no question that the bullpen could use another proven arm or two, especially one that has closing experience.
The Detroit Tigers could end up being a surprise contender for the MLB postseason. They appear to be in the middle of the perfect spot.
